LOCATION: Interchurch Center Gallery
475 Riverside Drive, @ West 120th Street in Morningside Heights, New York City
EXHIBITION DATES: March 14th, through May 2nd, 2025
"Reflections on Progress: 100 Years of the New York Society of Women Artists" is a centennial exhibition that delves into the evolving perceptions of identity among women artists, framed by themes of social justice such as gender equity, eco-feminism, and intersectionality. This intergenerational and culturally diverse showcase features works from founding members, including Marguerite Zorach, Theresa Bernstein, and Anna Goldthwaite, alongside contemporary artists from the Society. By juxtaposing historical pieces—some created during the Federal Arts Project—with modern two- and three-dimensional artworks, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the advocacy efforts of women artists over the past century. It questions how the struggles for social equity have transformed and what continues to resonate today. With a rich legacy of innovation and a commitment to amplifying female perspectives, NYSWA reaffirms the importance of visibility and recognition for women in the art world, addressing both past achievements and ongoing disparities.
